Some dogs enjoy their bathtime, but others dislike it a lot that they try to avoid it as much as they can. An Alaskan malamute named Tonka is one of those dogs who don’t like taking a bath.
One day, as Tonka was playing, he jumped in the pool. Because he was already wet, his mom grabbed the chance to bathe him. And he didn’t like it.
Tonka got angry at his mom for bathing him. He refused to look at her, and he didn’t respond to her when she talked to him. He looked the other way.
“Are you ignoring me?” mom asked him. Tonka gave no response. Mom told him that he needed a bath because he was dirty and he jumped in the pool.
The dog replied with a long howl that sounded like, “I knoooow.” However, he still wouldn’t face his mom.
“Tonka, look at me,” mom said. She explained to him why she had to bathe him. “When you get dirty, and you jump in the pool, that means you have to take a bath.”
Tonka looked at his mom, but only to interrupt her while she talked. He howled several times while she was talking. Mom told him not to be angry. He replied with a short howl, and then he looked away again.
Mom told Tonka she was sorry that he was mad at her. She also told him she was glad because he was clean now. She asked him, “Are you happy you’re clean now?” The malamute ignored her.
However, mom wouldn’t leave him alone. She told him she was happy that he smelled a lot better now, even if he wouldn’t admit it.
“Aren’t you glad you smell better?” she asked him. Tonka turned to her and gave her an expressionless stare.
“Everybody’s got to bathe sometime, baby,” mom said. “Today was your day.” Tonka, who was sitting down and not looking at his mom, decided he didn’t want to listen to her anymore. He walked out of the room.
This usually happens when the stubborn malamute gets a bath. His mom doesn’t mind the temporary cold shoulder as long as he becomes clean.
